A new municipality – a new start – a new book

The new book about Hjørring is out – this time covering all of the new Municipality of Hjørring.

The book is thereby one of the first clear symbols of the merger on 1 January 2007 of the former municipalities of Hirtshals, Hjørring, Løkken-Vrå and Sindal into one “new and improved” municipality. Perhaps “new and improved” is a bit of an understatement and not nearly positive enough. Looking at the new municipality, which this book offers an excellent opportunity to do, we cannot but feel a certain sense of pride. The new Municipality of Hjørring has it all. The four old municipalities have each contributed many positive aspects and assets to creating a new and more complete municipality – without any shortfalls, you might almost say. This will benefit tourists, visitors to the area and local residents alike – and as suggested by the title of the book it may actually be “quite addictive”.

Also, we have every reason to be proud of this new book about the Municipality of Hjørring. It is a beautiful book – a book which appeals to visitors and potential new residents as well as to the local citizens. In my opinion, the book is wonderfully all-embracing – with something for every taste or interest. You can read about villages and towns, about the history of the region and about all that is on offer in the way of tourist attractions, shopping, healthcare, countryside, sports and leisure activities, education and training, art and culture, public service etc. etc.

The section on the municipality’s many enterprises and companies large and small provides valuable insights into the local business community. It is no secret that without the contributions from the many enterprises and companies, it would not have been possible to publish a new Hjørring book of such a high quality.

High quality may sound like a bit of an exaggeration, but I think most readers will agree with me once they have the book in their hands. Not only is the book printed on good-quality paper, the content of the book is also clear evidence that the many people who have contributed articles or specialist knowledge know what they are talking about. It has resulted in a book which takes a fresh look at Hjørring from many different angles – and that is really charming.

Moreover, the book contains articles in Danish, English and German, which makes it uniquely international as a publication of this kind. I would therefore encourage you all to take the book with you on your travels, and thereby help to market our new municipality – for the benefit of us all.

Finally and on behalf of the town council, I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those involved in the realisation of this book for their hard work and for their wonderful contributions to its publication.

Enjoy your read!
