Welcome to the Municipality of Hjørring

Newcomers to the Municipality of Hjørring and the approx. 68,000 people who already live here should feel welcome when contacting the municipal authorities. Four citizen service centres and Job Centre Hjørring (Jobcenter Hjørring) with its Benefits Office (Ydelseskontor) are therefore ready to assist in whatever way they can.

The citizen service centres can all be found at the town halls which housed the administration of the four old municipalities prior to the municipal reform on 1 January 2007.

The citizen service centres are located at the old
town halls in Hjørring, Hirtshals, Sindal and Vrå.

In addition to the citizen service centres, various municipal offices are located at the old town halls: Technical & Environmental Services, Health Service and Services for the Elderly and Disabled, Services for Children and Culture, Finance and internal staff functions, including the IT department and the legal office. Figure 4 shows which services and offices are situated in Hirtshals, Hjørring, Sindal and Vrå. However, you should always contact the citizen service centre (Borgerservice) first. Staff here will be able to help with most enquiries, and the centres are thus intended as the citizens’ first point of contact with the public authorities.
For opening hours, addresses etc., see the fact box (figure 5).

However, if your enquiry concerns the disbursement of, e.g., sickness benefit, cash benefit, rehabilitation benefit, unemployment benefit etc., please contact the Benefits Office at Job Centre Hjørring. Jobseekers and businesses in need of manpower should also contact the Job Centre. Read more about the opening hours of the Job Centre in the fact box (figure 6).

The four citizen service centres provide services in the form of information, forms and calculations to do with, e.g., tax and housing benefit, change of address, health insurance or child benefit.

Opening hours are the same at all four citizen service centres.

The citizen service centres are therefore a natural point of contact with the Municipality of Hjørring, but also with other public authorities. Enquiries may be made by telephone, in writing or by calling at the centres in person. Some of the areas in which the citizen service centres may be of assistance are listed below. For services marked with *, a special self-service solution is available at the website of the Municipality of Hjørring
http://www.hjoerring.dk
The self-service solutions will be extended in future, and in that way the Municipality of Hjørring is open 24/7 for certain services.

Welcome pack for newcomers
The Municipality of Hjørring would like to take good care of newcomers to the area. We are always pleased to welcome new people to our part of Denmark. We want everybody to feel welcome and have therefore, in collaboration with the local business community and a number of cultural institutions and associations, put together a special welcome pack for newcomers. The welcome pack for newcomers comprises a copy of this book as well as a special newcomers’ cheque book, a telephone directory and other kinds of information. The cheque book is full of special offers which are open to newcomers within 6 months of their arrival - e.g. membership of an art association, free music schooling for the whole family or discounts at various shops.

Sct. Knuds Park 6 in Hjørring is the address of the Job Centre and the Benefits Office which are housed in the refurbished factory buildings which used to belong to the Nestlé group.

Each household can pick up a welcome pack for newcomers from the citizen service centre. All they have to do is produce the letter of welcome which they will have received from the Municipality of Hjørring.

The Municipality of Hjørring's Information Office handles everything to do with the welcome packs for newcomers, and businesses etc. are welcome to contact the Information Office if they would like any special offers for newcomers to be included in the cheque book. You can contact the Information Office on tel. 72 33 31 20or by e-mail at info@hjoerring.dk

Each new household is sent a welcoming letter by the Municipality of Hjørring. From the citizen service centre they can then pick up a welcome pack for newcomers containing, e.g., a special cheque book of special offers open to newcomers within the first 6 months of their arrival.
